WASHINGTON: Ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit this week, US officials said Monday that the State Department has approved the sale of military aircraft and equipment to the United Arab Emirates for $1.4 billion.
Six CH-47F Chinook helicopters and other equipment are being offered for $1.32 billion to the Gulf state, which will “support the foreign policy and national security of the United States,” according to a statement released by the State Department Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
“The UAE will use these assets in search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support, and counterterrorism operations,” they stated.
“The United Arab Emirates is a vital US partner for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.”
