Living along the Line of Control (LoC), the shaky de facto boundary separating India and Pakistan, means that one is always on the brink of an unstable peace and an open conflict.
India and Pakistan were once again on the verge of conflict following the latest escalation following the Pahalgam incident. Homes were reduced to rubble and lives were reduced to statistics as shells descended on both sides of the Line of Control. It is unknown how many of the 40 civilian casualties claimed by Pakistan were directly brought on by the shelling, while at least 16 individuals were reported killed on the Indian side.
“Families on the LoC are subjected to Indian and Pakistani whims and face the brunt of heated tensions,” Pakistani writer Anam Zakaria, who lives in Canada, told the news.
