With an arsenal of weapons primarily funded, supplied, and subsequently resupplied by the United States, Israel went to war following the October 7, 2023, Hamas strikes.
Israel received from its other friends something equally powerful in their own right: a strong sense of goodwill and solidarity, founded on disgust at the slaughter of 1,200 people, primarily Israeli civilians, and the observation of 251 people being taken as hostages in Gaza.
As far as France, the UK, and Canada are concerned, Israel’s credit appears to have vanished. Their denunciation of Israel’s tactics in the Gaza War is their most forceful to date.
