Hospital directors informed the BBC that Israeli airstrikes on Gaza overnight killed at least 54 Palestinians, the majority of whom were in a school building housing displaced families.
Hundreds of refugees fleeing Beit Lahia were being housed inside Gaza City’s Fahmi Al-Jargawi School, which is currently under heavy Israeli military attack. When the school was struck, at least 35 people were said to have died.
After flames destroyed two classrooms used as living quarters, Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defense reported several dead, including those of children, were found, many of them badly burned.
Targeting “a Hamas and Islamic Jihad command and control centre” there was the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) official statement.
