ISLAMABAD: Omar Ayub, the leader of the National Assembly’s opposition, has been invited by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to a meeting to discuss the nomination of a chief election commissioner (CEC).
The PM noted in a letter to the opposition leader that the CEC and two other ECP members had been carrying out their responsibilities under Article 215 of the Constitution even though their terms ended on January 26.
The premier wrote that the parliamentary committee must receive suggestions for the CEC and members in accordance with Article 218.
It is important to note that CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja’s five-year term, along with those of two other Election Commission members, concluded on January 26.
