The federal government has reversed the 100% rise in Islamabad metro bus prices, bringing the fare back to Rs50, which is a positive move for the thousands of commuters who travel there every day.
Only a few days after the contentious raise took effect, the decision was made in response to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s orders.
Prior to this, on June 1, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced that metro bus rates would increase from Rs50 to Rs100. All government-run bus services in the capital, including the Orange, Green, Blue, and Electric bus lines, were subject to the fare increase.
The decision, which would have affected more than 90,000 passengers every day, had drawn heavy public and media condemnation, especially in the run-up to Eid-ul-Adha season.
