NEW DELHI: On Monday, an Air India Airbus A320 aircraft damaged the underside of one of its engines and momentarily closed the runway at Mumbai International Airport when it veered off the runway during a rainstorm.
Air India stated that all of the passengers and personnel had since disembarked, however it did not specify if anyone had been hurt. Mumbai was the destination of Air India flight AI2744, which originated in Kochi, in the southern state of Kerala.
In a statement, the Mumbai airport stated that a “runway excursion” had caused “minor damages reported to the airport’s primary runway” and that a backup runway had been activated to maintain operations.
According to Air India, the plane has been grounded for inspection.
