Thousands of Kenyans flocked to the streets in a day of protests against President William Ruto’s administration, resulting in at least eight fatalities and 400 injuries.
Exactly one year after the wave of fatal anti-government protests that swept the country in 2024, police fought with demonstrators in the capital, Nairobi, as well as other locations.
“Ruto must go” was chanted by several protesters, who also waved branches in a nonviolent protest of his administration.
The High Court in Nairobi, the country’s capital, lifted the government’s prohibition on live radio and television coverage of the protests.
“Kenya’s calm shouldn’t be destroyed by protests. If something goes wrong, we have no other country to turn to.
