NEW DELHI: In the wake of last month’s Air India plane tragedy that claimed 260 lives, India has ordered its airlines to inspect fuel switches on a number of Boeing models.
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau released a preliminary report on Saturday, stating that immediately after takeoff, the switches had switched from run position to cutoff.
The investigation stated that one pilot asked the other why he had cut off fuel, and the second pilot replied that he had not. However, it made no conclusions or assigned culpability for the June 12 tragedy.
The investigation into the locking function on the fuel control switches of various Boeing models, including 787s and 737s, was ordered by India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday.
