KARACHI: A major change in urban parking policy has been made when the Sindh government announced that all parking fees on public highways in Karachi would be eliminated.
The notification states that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other Sindh government agencies are not permitted to collect parking fees on city limits.
The notification states that parking fees can only now be collected in places that have been defined, including plazas, private plots, or parking zones that are overseen by the local authorities in question.
According to the letter, anyone or any organization discovered to be charging residents for parking on public highways will be subject to severe legal action.
The action came after a decision earlier this month to eliminate parking fees on 46 KMC-controlled highways.
