As weeks of tension over a border issue turned into skirmishes that have killed at least two civilians, both sides alleged Thursday that a Thai F-16 fighter jet targeted targets in Cambodia.
According to the Thai army, one of the six F-16 fighter jets that Thailand prepared to use near the disputed border fired into Cambodia and damaged a military target. Each nation accused the other of initiating the conflict early Thursday.
Richa Suksuwanon, the deputy spokeswoman for the Thai army, told reporters, “We have used air power against military targets as planned.” Additionally, Thailand sealed off its border with Cambodia.
