According to The Telegraph, a new study from the University of California found that middle-aged women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are more likely to experience memory and cognitive issues.
Up to three million women in Britain are affected by PCOS, which can lead to infertility, irregular menstruation cycles, and elevated testosterone levels.
It has been discovered by researchers that the illness may cause neurological issues. It has been connected to high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and cardiac issues.
The University of California study, which comprised about 900 women, discovered that, in comparison to women without PCOS, women in their 50s and 60s had poor memory, attention, and language skills.
The connections between the brain cells of the PCOS-affected women were also shown to be worse, according to brain scans.10% of women have the disorder, which can lead to “lower memory and thinking skills and subtle brain changes at midlife,” according to research author and UC San Francisco’s Dr. Heather Huddleston.
