The Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is working on a new chat lock feature that will let users safeguard private discussions within the app’s web client, improving the security of these kinds of exchanges.
WhatsApp is reportedly working on adding a closed chat feature to its online client, per a WABetaInfo report. The encrypted chats will probably be kept in a separate tab to give private conversations an additional degree of protection and privacy.
According to Live Mint, sources indicate that the feature is under development and will be included in a future edition of the web client.
In the meantime, Google Drive, the most popular cloud storage service, may no longer allow users of Android smartphones to store their chat logs, movies, and photos for free.
Because of this development, users would soon have to worry about their Google Drive storage limit being exceeded by WhatsApp data. As a solution, they might want to think about obtaining a Google One subscription.
Chat backups were being kept on your Google Drive account by Meta-owned WhatsApp, regardless of whether you were using Google’s free or paid cloud storage plan. This increases the amount of space that backups from Google Photos, Gmail, and other sources take up on your Google Drive by using the storage connected to the Gmail account that is tied to your WhatsApp.
If you don’t want to use up all of your Google Drive space and don’t want to pay for the Google One plan, you can choose not to back up your WhatsApp conversations to the cloud.
