The most recent year covered in the analysis, 2022, had 879 million adults and 159 million children who were obese, according to research published in The Lancet journal.
According to the survey, there are around 16.8 million obese persons in the UK, comprising eight million women, 7.4 million men, 760,000 boys, and 590,000 girls.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration, a global network of health scientists, collaborated to perform the study.
According to the findings, rates of obesity in adults more than doubled between 1990 and 2022, while rates in children and adolescents tripled internationally.
The study also showed that over the same time period, the percentage of underweight children and adolescents decreased while the percentage of underweight adults worldwide more than halved.
According to the experts, this makes obesity the most prevalent type of malnutrition in many nations.
