ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday announced the schedule for by-elections to national and provincial assembly seats that were left vacant following the February 8 general elections.
According to the electoral authority, by-elections for vacant seats will be held throughout the country on April 21, 2024.
The ECP indicated that by-elections will be held for six National Assembly (NA) seats, 12 provincial assembly seats in Punjab, two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan assemblies, and one in Sindh Assembly.
According to the schedule, candidates can file their candidacy papers between March 16 and March 18. On March 18, the names of the nominated candidates will be published.
Meanwhile, the returning officers (RO) will scrutinize the paperwork on March 21.
Those whose files have been denied may file appeals to the RO’s decision until March 25.
The appellate tribunal must then rule on the appeals by March 28, and the updated candidate list will be released the following day.
Candidates who desire to withdraw from the polls must do so by March 29, and the following day, March 30, running candidates will be assigned election emblems.
The polls will be held on April 21.
