According to the news, Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden is requesting permission from the Speaker’s office to address the legislature on Monday regarding China.
He is anticipated to inform parliament that Beijing is responsible for a slew of cyberattacks targeting members of parliament and peers, in addition to gaining access to 40 million voters’ personal information through an Electoral Commission hack last year.
A peer and three MPs are scheduled to be informed about recent cyberattacks against them in the meanwhile.
In reaction to the claims made by the UK government, Lin Jian, a spokeswoman for China’s ministry of foreign affairs, attacked the accusations as “smearing without factual basis” on Monday.
He stated that China was one of the “major victims of cyber attacks, and has always been resolute in stopping and cracking down on all kinds of malicious cyber activities, according to the law” .
