Israel criticized the UN Human Rights Council’s resolution on Friday, calling for Israel to be held responsible for any potential war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, calling it a “distorted text”.
The United States and Germany were among the twenty-eight nations that supported the resolution, while thirteen abstained and six voted against it. Several Council representatives applauded and clapped after the adoption.
The motion emphasized “the need to ensure accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in order to end impunity” .
Additionally, it voiced “great concern at reports of significant breaches of international humanitarian law and serious violations of human rights, including possibly war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory”.
