Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser to President Biden, came under fire on social media this past weekend for a 2023 statement he made asserting that the Middle East was “quiet” following Iran’s first-ever direct attack on Israel.
At The Atlantic Festival on September 29, Sullivan stated, “What we said is [we] want to depressurize, de-escalate and ultimately integrate the Middle East region.”
The Yemeni war is currently in its 19th month of ceasefire. The Iranian strikes against American forces have ceased for the time being. We have a stable presence in Iraq. I stress that for the time being because everything may change, and the Middle East is more peaceful than it has been in the last 20 years,” he continued.
