Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif praised the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday, calling for coordinated measures against climate change and praising them for their prompt response to the worst rains and flooding in the Middle Eastern country.
In a matter of days, the Emirates was inundated with more than 254 millimeters of rain, or over two years’ worth, which forced the closure of airports, schools, companies, and highways.
According to official media, the amount of rainfall was the most since 1949, the year the United Arab Emirates was formed.
During their phone call, the PM commended Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on his government’s prompt measures to limit flooding-related damages, which ultimately saved lives.According to a statement released by the PM Office, “the Prime Minister’s call was centered on his admiration for the strong resolve and impeccable efficiency with which the UAE leadership had confronted the challenges that had emerged from the recent rains in the country.”
