ISLAMABAD According to people with knowledge of the situation, the justices of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) unanimously recommended a “contempt proceeding” against any interference in court matters, adhering to the Supreme Court’s April 3 judgment.
This was mentioned in the suggestion that the IHC judges sent earlier this week to the Supreme Court Registrar.
The sources cited the IHC recommendation on how to stop interference in judicial affairs when they indicated that the high court should use its contempt of court powers to oppose meddling, subject to institutional consensus.
In order to finalize suggestions before submitting them to the highest court, the IHC full court met earlier this week under the direction of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. The case concerned the alleged meddling of espionage services in judicial matters.
In a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) last month, six judges of the International Humanitarian Court (IHC)—Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz—asked for advice on the “interference” of the intelligence agencies in the affairs of the courts.
