Excavators from Cambridge University and Liverpool John Moores discovered the skull 500 miles north of Baghdad, Iraq, at the Shanidar Cave site.
They managed to reconstruct the skull and the face of the woman it originally belonged to for a new Netflix documentary titled Secrets of the Neanderthals.
When the skull was originally discovered in 2018, it had been compressed to a thickness of about two centimeters.
It had been further compressed by tens of thousands of years of silt, and likely crushed by rockfall shortly after death.
They had to manually put together more than 200 bone pieces to rebuild the cranium.
