Australian physician Richard Scolyer is still cancer-free a year after receiving a world-first glioblastoma treatment.
The renowned pathologist’s groundbreaking melanoma study serves as the foundation for his experimental treatment.
Because Prof. Scolyer’s glioblastoma subtype is so aggressive, the majority of patients only live for a few months.
However, the 57-year-old revealed on Tuesday that there had been no sign of a tumor return on his most recent MRI scan.
“To be honest, I was more nervous than I have been for any previous scan,” he stated in the news.
“I’m just thrilled and delighted… couldn’t be happier.”
One of the most renowned doctors in the nation, Prof. Scolyer was honored this year as Australian of the Year along with his friend and colleague Georgina Long for their groundbreaking research on melanoma.
