According to a warning from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)’s National Drought Monitoring Centre (NDMC), flash drought-like conditions are expected in the country’s heatwave-affected areas.
According to the NDMC, heatwaves-induced flash drought could cause a scarcity of rainfall in the nation this year.
The weather service stated in its advice that “the flash drought-like situation may emerge over most of the high-temperature regions of the country, keeping in mind the impact of the heatwave.”
The drought monitoring center states that minimal rainfall combined with prolonged periods of consistently high temperatures—heatwaves, for example—occurs during a flash drought.
