ISLAMABAD: Due to the current monsoon spell that extends until July 7th, the National Desaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operation Center has predicted that the intense rains could result in flash floods in the local nullahs and streams of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and the hill torrent of DG Khan Rajanpur.
Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar are also predicted to experience urban flooding.
Data from the Federal Flood Division and other pertinent ministries indicate that while other major rivers will continue to see normal water flows, River Kabul is projected to experience a medium-level flood with a net water flow of 93.5 thousand cusecs.
In addition, the NDMA counseled local government and PDMAs to keep a careful eye on the situation and take the necessary precautions to protect the population that is in danger.
The general population is urged to keep educated and heed local authorities’ directives. For timely disaster alerts, instructions, and preventive measures, the public is encouraged to download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile app from the NDMA.
