The pictures feature Lionel Messi of Argentina clutching a baby, who happens to be 16-year-old Spanish right-winger Lamine Yamal.
Yamal made history this summer at Euro 2024 in Germany by being the youngest player to ever compete in a European Championship. Prior to that, he was the youngest player to ever played for Spain.
And on Tuesday, Spain defeated France 2-1 to get to the Euro 2024 final thanks to a stunning score from the young player.
Messi and Yamal’s 2007 photo went viral after Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, shared it on Instagram last week with the statement, “The beginning of two legends.”
In one photo, Messi is seen smiling and reaching out to grab the hand of Yamal, who is only a few months old, while the infant is in a blue plastic bathtub.
Mother Yamal is standing next to the two.
It was one of several pictures made during a fall 2007 photo shoot at Barcelona’s Camp Nou in the visitors’ dressing room.
Like Messi, Yamal has since moved on to represent Barcelona.
