Plans to significantly expand the daily number of visitors permitted to Machu Picchu have been revealed by Peru. The maximum number of visitors allowed entry to the well-known landmark each day is currently 3,800. However, starting in January, this will rise to 4,500 every day, with the possibility of an additional increase to 5,600 on particular days. The officials continued by emphasizing how important it is to preserve the ancient refuge. The adjustments are being made as Peru’s travel and tourist sector tries to bounce back from COVID-19. By the end of this year, only 2.2 million tourists are predicted to visit the South American country, a decrease of more than 50% from pre-pandemic levels. One of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites is Machu Picchu.
