Narinder Kaur, a 54-year-old Cleverton, Wiltshire resident, traveled across the nation tricking renowned stores including Debenhams, John Lewis, House of Fraser, and TK Maxx into giving her money back for stolen goods.
The biggest fraud occurred against Boots, when Kaur got refunds totaling £60,787 from seven UK retailers between July 2015 and February 2019, even though she had only made £5,172 in purchases from the company during that time.
Additionally, she was given refunds of £42,853 from Debenhams (despite only spending £3,681 over the course of four years) and £33,131 from John Lewis stores, which are located in Milton Keynes, Watford, Chester, and Nottingham.
She also made claims for £23,000 more in refunds than she was paid by the retailers when she visited other Monsoon locations in the Thames Valley, South Wales, and the West Midlands.Judge Ian Lawrie KC sentenced Kaur on Tuesday at Gloucester Crown Court, stating that her acts were “stubbornly persistent and on a near-Olympian scale.”
The judge stated that you committed a veritable tsunami of dishonesty and deceit against a wide range of victims.
