Patients have been advised that the disruption at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire, may result in some appointments being cancelled.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has advised anyone with appointments to come unless notified and informed otherwise, either directly or through the hospital’s website or social media channels.
Phone lines and switchboards have been disrupted, preventing individuals from calling into or receiving calls from the hospital.
In a statement, the trust stated that the “hospital is safe” and that personnel are “working hard to continue providing care for patients already with us”.
However, the site will not accept any new patients.
The trust said in a statement: “As a result of an unanticipated serious loss of electricity, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has declared a major incident at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
“Patients with a serious medical condition must phone NHS 111 or 999 in an emergency and not attend the QA Hospital Emergency Department.”
The trust stated that on-site teams are attempting to “restore power as soon as possible.”.
