The man, 66 years old, is European and landed in Thailand last week from an unidentified African nation.
According to the director-general of the nation’s Department of Disease Control, the man’s testing revealed that he is “infected with the Clade 1b strain of monkeypox”.
Furthermore, Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn stated that no additional local cases have been discovered through contact tracing, and the man is “likely infected from an endemic country”.
The individual traveled from an unnamed Middle Eastern nation to Thailand.
Because of how quickly the Clade 1b mpox strain spreads through close contact—especially among children—it has caused alarm throughout the world.
The strain first appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but cases were quickly verified in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and other nearby nations that had not previously recorded instances of mpox.
Due to the fact that a significant fraction of clinically comparable cases have not been examined, experts expect the actual number of cases to be larger.
