The CEO of the world’s largest shipping company, AP Møller-Maersk, has issued a warning over the possible significant impact on the world economy due to ongoing attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
According to Vincent Clerc, “it could potentially have fairly significant consequences on global growth,” as reported by the Financial Times. “We are calling on the international community to come together and take the necessary steps to allow the reopening of the Bab al-Mandab Strait. It is currently choked and is one of the major arteries of the world economy.
Since seizing control of the Galaxy Leader and its multinational crew of twenty-five on November 19, the Houthi rebels in Yemen have launched twenty-six strikes against commercial ships in the Red Sea.
In protest of the ongoing war, the Houthis claim to be attacking vessels that are connected to or headed toward Israel.
