The Financial Commitment Agreement between China and Pakistan Railways to upgrade the long-awaited Mainline-1 (ML-1) project, a vital part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has been approved by the federal cabinet to begin discussions.
The final agreement on the cutting-edge railway project was directed to be presented back to the cabinet for approval during the cabinet meeting on Friday in Islamabad, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
One of the key infrastructure development projects connecting the two nations is the ML-1, which was approved by the federal government in June as part of the annual plan for budget 2024–25, which aims to initiate the second phase of the CPEC.
The strategy calls on the government to concentrate on bilateral cooperation in a number of areas, such as infrastructure, industry, modern agriculture, socioeconomic development, and scientific cooperation.
