Three Britons, including James Kirby, were slain by Israeli drone strikes during an aid convoy that the organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) was operating.
The family also expressed their “surprise” at not receiving any communication or condolences from Israel’s ambassador to the UK or any Israeli official since the attack, ahead of a memorial service for Mr. Kirby at Bristol Cathedral on Wednesday. The family also criticized the government for not being in touch with them since his death.
A representative for Israel’s embassy in London described the occurrence as “a tragic mistake” and offered their “deepest sorrow” to the news.
“There must be a proper, independent inquiry into this attack on innocent aid workers, and for the evidence to be assessed, if appropriate, in a relevant court of law,” said Louise Kirby, a cousin of James, speaking on behalf of the family.Sadly, though, since James and his coworkers’ deaths, the UK government has not contacted the families. Neither have we been informed as to whether a reliable, independent inquiry is underway or, if one has, what the findings of that investigation are.
“I sincerely hope the prime minister will take our concerns seriously and launch a suitable, independent, or legal investigation,” the woman continued. “Not only will this allow us to have accountability and transparency, but it will also ensure that other British citizens and their families can do it.
