Following Labour MPs’ vote on Tuesday to forward the cut through, Mr. Sunak again questioned Sir Keir about his intention to release an effect assessment on the policy.
no option because the economy was left with a £22 billion “black hole” by Mr. Sunak’s administration.
He declined to say whether or not an impact assessment was in place or whether he intended to publish one.
According to Mr. Sunak, Chancellor Rachel Reeves “admitted that she would prefer it if this policy didn’t even raise any money” this morning, and the cut has “nothing to do with public finances.”
The administration “obviously…would not have made this,” he added.
Energy Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh stated on Tuesday that her department had evaluated how the cut will affect seniors who are fuel impoverished.
Left-wing Labour MPs were critical of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, claiming that a paper would be released “in due course” and that withholding it would give rise to claims that the government is concealing information.
