Central England is under the new weather advisory from Thursday at 6 p.m. to Friday at 6 a.m.
In the worst-hit areas, about three inches of rain could fall over several hours, and the Met Office cautioned that “rivers continuing to rise after the rain clears”.
Numerous yellow weather warnings had already been issued, covering a sizable portion of the nation from Thursday morning to Friday morning.
These are three distinct rain warnings: one for the western regions of Northern Ireland, one for northern England, and one for a broad area encompassing the majority of both England and Wales.
Regarding the amber signal, the Met Office stated that “slow moving showers and thunderstorms will develop through the afternoon, merging into a large band of heavy rain through the evening, before clearing slowly south overnight.”
Certain locations, particularly in the warning area’s central and eastern regions, are probably going to receive 30 to 40 mm in three hours or less, and maybe 50 to 60 mm or more in about six.
“This rain will impact areas still recovering from recent flooding by adding to the already saturated ground.
