“It was a close call as to whether he would survive that surgery,” co-director Peter Ettedgui of “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” said to News .
“That was ground zero for us, because obviously, when he then finally did come round, you know, his first thought was just ‘Please just switch off life support,'” Ettedgui continued.
However, with the help of his two oldest children’s mother, Gae Exton, and close friend and former roommate Robin Williams, who would occasionally stop by to “make him laugh,” he started to rediscover it,.
Ettedgui claimed that during the documentary’s production, the producers had a revelation regarding “learning the extent” and “depth” of Reeve’s friendship with Williams.
When they shared a room at Julliard in the 1970s, Reeve and Williams grew close, and their friendship continued until Reeve’s passing in 2004.
