Due to allegations of child abuse, Malaysia has arrested hundreds more people.

In September, the Islamic Global Ikhwan Group (GISB) made headlines throughout the world after police rescued 402 children from 20 care facilities where they were suspected of being abused.

At the time, authorities detained 171 suspects, including caregivers and teachers; but, as additional information about the group’s alleged crimes becomes available, hundreds more have been detained.

These include claims that, up until October 1st, five members of the GISB trafficked individuals for the purpose of using threats to exploit them through forced labor.

Note: There are descriptions of physical and sexual violence in this narrative.

Two of the defendants managed a resort in the southern state of Johor that was owned by the GISB. Four counts of human trafficking involving three women and a man between the ages of 30 and 57 were brought against them on Sunday. The third was accused of two charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old while working at the same resort.

The incident occurred between August 2023 and October 1, 2024, and at least two additional suspects are still at large.

According to authorities, hundreds of more victims, ages one to seventeen, reportedly suffered from various forms of abuse at care facilities connected to GISB. Some of these individuals were allegedly forced to perform sexual acts on other children after being sodomized by their guardians.
