Through a program called Bergen Barbers, named after the street in Newark, New Jersey, where University Hospital is situated, a group of medical students is working to change that.
The initiative, which was started in 2021 by Vaishali Ravikumar, a student at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), offers hospitalized patients haircutting, shaving, and detangling services.
A man claims that hospital cafeterias are where he gets his food fix: “WORTH VISITING”
While caring for a trauma surgery patient in his third year of study, Ravikumar had the notion.
Throughout the entire procedure, we conversed and joked, and I discovered a lot about him.
He was considerably happier and had greater faith in his medical team when I was done.
Bergen Barbers was founded when Ravikumar enlisted a number of NJMS student volunteers because he was driven to provide the services to more patients.
Self-taught abilities
By watching YouTube tutorials, the pupils, who had no prior experience with haircutting or shaving, learned some fundamental techniques.
According to Ravikumar, we learned how to provide a simple haircut and how to operate a clipper.
