The first-ever Animal Welfare Act, 2024, was passed by the provincial parliament, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration has implemented severe penalties and hefty fines to combat animal abuse.
KP Livestock Minister Fazal Hakim Khan introduced the measure, which was easily approved by a majority of the provincial legislature. The Cruelty to Animals Act of 1890 was repealed by the new law.
According to a copy of the bill that Geo News was able to obtain, the new law was presented to prevent animals from suffering needlessly and to establish guidelines for the humane handling, care, and transportation of animals in the province of KP.
