Two major solar energy projects were inaugurated in Karachi by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah: the partial solarization of the Dow University of Health Sciences Ojha Campus and the conversion of Karachi Central Jail to solar power.
With the help of the Sindh Solar Energy Project, Karachi Central Jail now obtains 614.8 kilowatts of electricity instead of the previous 549 kilowatts. The K-Electric grid will receive any surplus energy produced.
It is anticipated that the initiative, which cost Rs216 million, will pay for itself in three years, saving the provincial budget an estimated Rs64.26 million a year for the following twenty-five years.
Concurrently, the Chief Minister also officially opened a solar power project at the Ojha campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences.
