As Pakistan launched a seven-day anti-polio vaccination campaign to eradicate the debilitating illness, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the nation polio-free.
During a polio eradication meeting on Monday, he declared, “We will not rest until we have permanently defeated polio.”
He praised the government’s polio team’s efforts to fight the illness, but instructed the national health secretary, polio focal person Ayesha Raza Farooq, and coordinator for national health Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath to visit the most impacted districts during the campaign.
Additionally, the prime minister ordered that the anti-polio campaign be audited by a third party. He emphasized the necessity of creating a thorough plan to deal with immunity.
