According to opposition leaders, Venezuelan security forces have surrounded Argentina’s embassy in Caracas with armed and hooded personnel.
The embassy is now housing six opposition members who have fled there to avoid a crackdown by Venezuelan authorities ahead of the country’s presidential elections in July.
Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado’s foreign coordinator, Pedro Urruchurtu, who has been in the embassy since March, posted on X Saturday that streets surrounding the embassy had been blocked by armed, hooded National Police officers. He claimed that phone signals had been cut off and that drones were hovering over the embassy.
