With an incredible $46 billion budget, Norway is set to build the Rogfast, the longest and deepest underwater road tunnel in the world.
With a 16-mile length and a depth of 1,300 feet, this engineering marvel is scheduled to open in 2033 with the goal of revolutionizing the commute between southern and northern Norway.
In Rogaland County, the tunnel will connect the towns of Randaberg and Bokn. Ferries are now used by locals and visitors to get between the two areas, according to the Mirror.
The 680-mile journey along the E39 between Kristiansand and Trondheim takes 21 hours when taking a ferry. However, by eliminating ferry crossings, the Rogfast tunnel will drastically cut down on travel time—saving an incredible 11 hours.
