French customs officials have cautioned citizens against ingesting so-called “aphrodisiac honey,” which is illegally imported honey laced with erectile dysfunction medications.
Following an uptick in prior years, customs officials reported record seizures of the products in 2024, prompting the warning in a statement released Monday.
This includes one instance in November when 860,000 items totaling 13 metric tonnes (14.3 tons) were found in a shipment from Malaysia at the port of Marseille.
Over 238 kilograms (525 pounds) were found in a storage box as a result of another inquiry.
