India’s strikes across the border in the early hours of Wednesday have caused tensions between nuclear-armed neighbors India and Pakistan to sharply increase.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday that the action, which India claimed was in retaliation for an attack that killed 26 tourists in the picturesque Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), has led to contradicting allegations regarding downed planes.
India began attacking Pakistan on Wednesday. Although the specifics of the operation are still unknown, both sides have made claims about the number of aircraft lost in the aftermath.
The loss of two to three Indian aircraft within India’s borders has been confirmed by Indian officials, Western diplomats, and local media outlets.
