Enas Abu Daqqa, 33, is seen holding her infant daughter Niveen in her arms while she is in a makeshift tent in the northern Gaza Strip’s al-Shati refugee camp. Behind her, a fan hums continuously to dispel the early heat.
Enas fears that Niveen’s condition could worsen at any time. She was born during the war with a hole in her heart, and she is just seven months old.
Niveen, with her large brown eyes and small frame, sobs and fidgets as her mother describes how she fought to keep her alive in Gaza’s crumbling health system.
“The war has been very tough for her,” Enas reports to the news report. “She wasn’t gaining any weight, and she would get sick so easily.”
