Just one hour after they started Monday, Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations in Istanbul came to an end, one day after a huge Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s nuclear-capable strategic bombers.
The negotiations, which are the second direct meetings between the parties since 2022, had already started almost two hours later than expected with no justification.
The discussions resulted in an agreement to carry out a new prisoner exchange, and Ukraine stated that more negotiations were planned despite the muted tone and short dialogue.
Before the negotiations started, irate war bloggers in Russia demanded that Moscow strike Kyiv with a devastating blow after Ukraine conducted one of its most extensive wartime attacks on Sunday.
