Lagos: In a report released Thursday, the anti-poverty organization Oxfam warned that growing inequality was undermining democracy and that the four richest Africans are worth more than about half of the 750 million people on the continent.
The richest individual on the continent, Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, was the sole person mentioned by Oxfam in its report.
However, Forbes claims that South Africans Nicky Oppenheimer and Johann Rupert, as well as Egyptian entrepreneur Nassef Sawiris, complete the top four.
According to Oxfam, African billionaires’ wealth has increased by 56% in the last five years, with the wealthiest of them seeing even greater rises.
According to the survey, the continent is home to over half of the world’s 50 most unequal nations.
