PARIS: According to recent studies, solar energy has surpassed all other electricity sources in Europe as the primary source of electricity.
Solar panels produced more electricity than any other source in the European Union in June, accounting for 22.1 percent of the total electricity mix, according to a report by the UK-based energy think tank Ember Group.
The British-based organization said that put it ahead of wind turbines at 15.8 percent and nuclear power at 21.8 percent. Hydropower made up 12.8 percent and gas 14.4 percent.
According to Ember, at least 13 nations have surpassed their own national solar power production records.
