A man found guilty of raping and killing a little girl was publicly executed by Iranian authorities on Saturday, according to the judiciary.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online news website reports that the victim’s family, who were from the northwest city of Bukan, had been involved in the court case and had asked for the public execution.
As stated by Naser Atabati, the province chief justice, “The case was given special attention due to the emotional impact it had on public opinion,” according to Mizan.
The supreme court of the Islamic republic subsequently maintained the death sentence, which had been handed out in March.
Atabati stated that the public execution was performed “at the request of the victim’s family and citizens, due to the emotional impact the case had on society.”
