Cambodia has attributed a tragic explosion at an ammunition depot to various reasons, including the heatwave affecting southeast Asia.
The incident on Saturday in the Cambodian province of Kampong Speu claimed the lives of twenty troops.
Officials denied accusations that disobedient soldiers were to blame, stating that defective ammunition and unusually high temperatures combined to trigger the explosion.
Up to 43 °C (109.4 °F) in temperature is predicted for the nation.
According to sources, 25 surrounding homes were impacted, while an office building and nearby barracks were demolished.
Pictures from the scene depict a military truck that was damaged, a demolished warehouse, and a young patient receiving medical attention for gashes. There are several explosions audible in an unconfirmed social media image.
